Earl Kusky Obituary

Austintown – Earl Edward (Ed) Kusky, 82, of Austintown, made his transition to his heavenly home on Monday evening, March 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his residence.

He was born August 18, 1941, in Youngstown, the son of Carl and Blanche (Yeager) Kusky and was a lifelong area resident.

Ed was a 1960 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and continued his education by attending Bethany College and Youngstown State University. Ed decided to enter the building trades and become a journeymen electrician. He worked tirelessly through his Union IBEW Local 64 for over 37 years with various contractors on many commercial and residential projects throughout the Mahoning Valley, retiring from CR Electric in 2000. After his retirement, he went on to teach electrical apprentices at MCCTC and became an electrical inspector for the tri-county area.

Ed was a longtime, active member of Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he was instrumental in creating the children’s crusaders program. In addition, he was an elder of the church, clerk of session, and financial secretary. He oversaw and carried out the electrical work when Mulholland Hall was constructed in 1995. He served with other ministries, including the Tabernacle After School Program, alongside his wife Joanne.

Ed had many passions throughout his life. After achieving Life Scout and Order of the Arrow, he enjoyed model railroads, coaching his children’s youth sports, and passing along his love of math and map reading. He was analytical and detail oriented, this came through when he played board games, shared the “back roads” to your destination, and insisted that your pencils were sharp enough to write clearly. Ultimately, Ed adored his grandchildren and found great joy in attending all their activities. He will always be remembered and loved for his generosity, his smile, and his determined work ethic.

Ed leaves behind to hold onto his precious memories, his wife of over 62 years, the former Joanne Houk, whom he married December 23, 1961, his beloved children Mark Kusky, Deborah (Chris) Berni, Peter (Brittany) Kusky, Elizabeth (Drew) Bourneuf, and Sarah (Dr. Stephen) Pupillo, his eleven grandchildren Hannah, Moriah (James) Barber, Rebekah, and Josiah Berni; Logan, Blake, and Brock Kusky; Calvin and Marley Bourneuf; Lydia and Samuel Pupillo, a great granddaughter Evelyn Rose Barber and his brother Carl (Bonnie) Kusky along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son Timothy John Kusky.

Family and friends may pay their respects to Ed on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 10:00 am until 11:50 am at Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2432 S. Raccoon Rd., Austintown, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm with Pastors Brian Carpenter and Gary Koerth as officiants. Burial will take place at Four Mile Run Cemetery, Austintown.
